As part of our focus on school improvement, all schools within the Superior-Greenstone District School Board will be participating in an online school perception survey for students called the OurSCHOOL Student Survey.  The Survey will open on October 23 and close on November 3, 2023.  Based on what information students provide in the survey; we can make changes to help improve their experience at school.

The survey covers various aspects related to student well-being and academic performance.  It examines social engagement through participation in sports, clubs, and the sense of belonging, fostering positive relationships and school engagement.  The study values school outcomes, including attendance, homework behaviour, positive behaviour, and intellectual engagement.  It also assesses interest, motivation, effort, and emotional health, addressing issues like anxiety, depression, and self-esteem.  It considers the importance of effective learning environments, teacher-student relations, and learning climate, as well as advocacy within and outside of school.  Additionally, it explores students’ aspirations, experiences with bullying and exclusion, their sense of safety at school, and various demographic factors such as grade, socioeconomic status, indigenous status, home language and disability.

The survey takes approximately 25-50 minutes to complete.  The survey measures include such topics as emotional and social well-being, physical health, and behaviours and attitudes linked to student success.  The survey also allows students to give their thoughts and feedback in open-ended question responses.

Participation in the survey is entirely voluntary.  If during the survey, your child is uncomfortable answering any question, they may leave it blank and move on to the next one.  Your child can stop the survey at any time.  Students who agree to complete the survey are given a random user name and password to access and complete the survey online.  Students’ names cannot be linked to their responses, which allows it to be completely anonymous.  Results will show all student scores combined – it is not possible to singe out individual students in the results.  The OurSchool survey is accessible from any web-enabled device, for example, computers and tablets.

The feedback provided on the OurSCHOOL survey will help us in our planning to make school the best it can be!  The survey is anonymous, so students can answer these questions thoughtfully and truthfully.

If you would like more information, please contact the Principal of your child’s school.   Information regarding the survey data will be shared as part of our action plan and ongoing communications about our commitment to student voice, and well-being.   As parents/guardians/caregivers of our students, you will also have an opportunity to participate in the OurSchool Parent Survey.  Please watch for future information in the Spring of 2024.
