SGDSB Appoints New Superintendent of Business

MARATHON, Ontario – The Superior-Greenstone District School Board (SGDSB) is pleased to announce the appointment of Alex Marton as their new Superintendent of Business.  The appointment is effective January 4, 2021.

Marton brings with him significant knowledge of school business operations from his previous role as the Regional Internal Audit Manager for Northwestern Ontario.  Prior to that, Marton held the position of Tax Analyst with Grant Thornton, LLP.  Marton possesses a comprehensive understanding of IT, Communications, Payroll, Finance, Plan, HR, Transportation and Custodial departments.  Marton’s philosophy is grounded in inclusive leadership, collaboration, and is relationship-focused.

Upon his appointment, Marton stated that he is “looking forward to bringing his skills and experience to the role of Superintendent to enable the continued delivery of high-quality education through strong strategic and operational leadership”.  He noted that he is “thrilled to join the team at Superior-Greenstone District School Board and looking forward to collaborating with our communities, staff, and educators to ensure our students receive the highest level of service through the responsible and transparent stewardship of public funds.”

Director of Education Nicole Morden Cormier stated that “we are excited to welcome Alex to Superior-Greenstone District School Board.   The role of Superintendent is a pivotal role within our senior leadership team and we are looking forward to working with him.  I am confident he will provide excellent leadership and dedication to the implementation of our strategic initiatives and will continue to advance the board in efficiency and effectiveness.”

Alex will succeed Cathy Tsubouchi the current Superintendent of Business.  Tsubouchi has had a long-esteemed career with SGDSB since 1988 and will be retiring in March 2021.  The Director of Education said “we are thankful for Cathy’s many contributions as our Board has benefited greatly from her expertise.  Cathy has been and continues to be an outstanding professional who is strongly committed to public education.  She will be missed by the school board.  Her steady hand, dedication and vast knowledge are greatly appreciated.”  After 33 years of dedicated service to the school board district, Tsubouchi is setting her sights on a well-deserved retirement and spending more time with her recently retired husband and their family.  The Director stated that “the entire district has benefited from her leadership and skilled stewardship of resources.  The strong administration of the school board is evidence that Cathy made it a priority to give generously of her time and experience.  At this time, we celebrate her years of service and dedication she has provided us, and we wish her all the best in her retirement.”

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, Morden Cormier extended congratulations to both Alex Marton and Cathy Tsubouchi.  The Director is looking forward to a seamless transition for Marton to the Senior Leadership team as the new Superintendent of Business.
