New Student Trustee Announced for SGDSB
MARATHON, Ontario – The Superior-Greenstone District School Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Miley Anthony, a Grade 11 student from Marathon High School, as the new Student Trustee. Miley has been elected by the student body and will serve a two-year term beginning on August 1, 2024, until July 31, 2026.
Miley brings a wealth of experience to her new role as Student Trustee. She has been an active member of the Student Senate since Grade 8 and has demonstrated a genuine commitment to advocating for positive change within her school community. Miley played a pivotal role in establishing a Thrift Store at the Marathon High School and has shown exemplary leadership as an active volunteer and leader.
"As an advocate for change and positive leadership, Miley embodies the values and principles of our Student Trustee program," said Director Nicole Morden Cormier. "We are confident that she will represent the student body with integrity and dedication."
The appointment of Miley aligns with Superior-Greenstone District School Board's commitment to nurturing and developing young leaders through initiatives such as the Student Senate, Indigenous Youth Council, and Student Trustee program. As part of the Multi-Year Strategic Plan, the school board has two Student Trustees, each serving a two-year term. The terms are staggered to allow for continuity and mentorship, ensuring a smooth transition of leadership. Miley will serve along side current Student Trustee Zoey Krause, Student at Lake Superior High School, who has served as a Student Trustee since August 2023.
Miley will succeed current Student Trustee Emeraude Hunter, whose term ends in August 2024. Board Chair Pinky McRae, expressed gratitude for Emeraude's contributions and emphasized the school board's pride in its student leaders.
"We are extremely proud of our student leaders and the invaluable contributions they make to our school communities," said Chair McRae. "Through their involvement in initiatives like the Student Senate and representation at a provincial level through the Ontario Student Trustees' Association, our students are making a difference and shaping the future of education in Northern Ontario."
