Celebration of Diversity & Inclusion

MARATHON, Ontario – Annually the first days of June are marked as a momentous occasion for Superior-Greenstone District School Board as they proudly raise the Pride Flag across various schools, reaffirming their commitment to human rights and celebrating the rich tapestry of identities within their communities.

At a heartfelt ceremony hosted at the Nipigon-Red Rock District High School, attendees were reminded of the profound importance of creating inclusive and safe environments for all students, staff, and community members.  The event saw inspiring speeches from the Human Rights and Equity Advisor Anthony Jeethan, Principal Jennifer Rissanen, Superintendent of Education Will Goodman, and Terry Wright a member of the Red Rock Indian Band, emphasizing the significance of standing together in solidarity and providing space for all voices to be heard.

"Our commitment to fostering inclusive, safe spaces to learn and work is unwavering," remarked Anthony Jeethan, the Human Rights and Equity Advisor. "Every individual deserves to feel valued and respected for who they are.  The raising of the Pride Flag serves as a visible symbol of our ongoing dedication to supporting 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals and celebrating the diversity that enriches our school board.  It is a testament to our collective commitment to upholding human rights for all.”

Echoing this sentiment, Will Goodman, Superintendent of Education, emphasized, "When a child feels safe and seen, they can truly thrive academically, emotionally, and socially.  Our dedication to equity, diversity and inclusion is paramount to their success.  As we celebrate this momentous occasion, let us continue to work together to create a world where every person feels empowered to embrace their authentic selves without fear of discrimination or prejudice.”

Superior-Greenstone District School Board is committed to fostering a culture of inclusivity and acceptance, where every individual is valued and respected.  They are dedicated to providing a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment for all students.
