How do we meet the needs of diverse individuals?

At Superior-Greenstone District School Board, we are responsible for designing and implementing inclusive, student-centered, and barrier-free environments where all students feel welcomed, safe, and supported in the school community.

This means that we prioritize the education of students in regular classrooms with age-appropriate peers, as we cultivate inclusive learning communities that honour diversity, respects individuality, and values all perspectives.

Collaborative Relationships are important when supporting students' ability to share their voices and know that their voice is valued.

All Staff, such as Teachers and Principals collaborate with students, families, community agencies, and Indigenous communities to ensure that learning opportunities are purposeful and meaningful to the student.

"Helping a child discover and leverage their unique skills helps them develop the confidence to be a learner, and the courage to overcome their weaknesses."

Meaningful Opportunities for Learning

To provide meaningful learning opportunities for all students Teachers carefully plan their instruction using the following principles:

·         Inclusive Learning environments are co-created with students needs in mind

·         Multiple ways of learning are welcomed

·         Students have opportunities to use different ways of learning through hands on and experiential learning, using technology, through connecting with others, and through listening to or sharing in experiences.

·         Careful review of where the student is at in their learning

·         Decisions are made in collaboration with students, staff and families to provide the best opportunity

·         Student goals are focused around what the student can do and next steps

·         Student profiles reflect the student's interests, strengths and needs

·         Learning opportunities are enriched through connecting and learning from each other, through cultural lenses and integrating Indigenous ways of knowing and learning

Using a strengths-based model of teaching students gives them the chance to redefine themselves and their education in terms of what makes them great.

Stay Connected

We strongly believe in communication between home and school. This helps to build strong relationships and leads to positive learning outcomes for students.

One of the best ways for a teacher to learn more about your child is to have positive connections with families.  Many staff welcome parents or guardians who reach out to share important information about their child. This helps to build a connection and helps the teacher learn about how your child learns best.

SGDSB has many different ways to help families and schools stay connected. Some of them include sending an email to your child's teacher, posting on EDSBY, even phone calls are welcomed. Staying connected helps to learn about your child and how we can best support them.

"By centering the individual needs and unique qualities of each student we ensure equitable outcomes for all students from Early Years to Graduation and beyond."
