Developing New Multi-Year Strategic Plan
Continued positive change is on the horizon for the Superior-Greenstone District School Board, as it sets its sight on renewing the Board’s vision and setting new priorities. In September 2023, Superior-Greenstone District School Board launched a progressive strategic planning process to engage students, staff, families, and community stakeholders.
Since the last full Strategic Plan Review was undertaken almost 5 years ago, much has changed in the educational landscape. The Board is poised to address the situation which has seen shifting demographics, changes in technology, changes to provincial regulation and equity and inclusion as major stimuli for change.
Director of Education Nicole Morden Cormier stated that, “this is an exciting time for the School Board, as we are redefining our priorities, we are also setting direction and a new set of goals and aspirations. The Strategic Plan is developed following a vigorous and inclusive process that includes Board Trustees, staff, students, and community partner input.” The 2018-2023 Strategic Plan is comprised of four pillars: Learning, Well-Being, Relationships and Stewardship. The four pillars are interconnected by the overarching theme of equity, articulated by identity, and belonging.
At the Professional Development Session and Regular Board Meeting, held on December 4, 2023, the Board of Trustees met to discuss the future of education and the opportunities available to support student achievement and well-being. Board Chair Pinky McRae said, “as we look to the future, it is important we maintain the qualities that make Superior-Greenstone District School Board stand out, that we help our students succeed and that we build on our past success. Over the past five years, Superior-Greenstone has been recognized for our academic achievements, our unique programming, our commitment to social justice and Indigenous education. We have developed a deeper understanding of the growth mindset, sense of belonging to the environment and to the learning, and the importance of strong relationships.
Morden Cormier believes through ingenuity and innovation there are many opportunities for Superior-Greenstone District School Board to continue to be a leader in education. “The Board of Trustees and the leadership team are grateful to be working with Future Design Schools, a highly qualified, external third-party consulting team, who is helping guide the work of building the new Multi-Year Strategic Plan. Together, with the feedback from staff, students, families, and community, we will build a pathway that ensures the continuation of delivery for high-quality programming while preparing our learners with the tools needed to succeed in the changing world.
The School Board will be launching the electronic surveys starting on December 11 to collect input and will continue with stakeholder engagement. Once the new Multi-Year Strategic Plan is developed, the Strategic Planning Committee will continue to review the plan with its various stakeholders until the end of June when the final document will be presented to the Board.
